Lights, Camera, Action! The glitz and glamour of Hollywood were on full display at the 11th Annual Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards, where the industry’s finest gathered to celebrate excellence in the art of transforming faces and hair into works of art. Hosted by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 706, the event honored the talented individuals who bring characters to life on the big screen and small screen alike.
The winners of this year’s awards spanned a diverse array of productions, showcasing the breadth of talent and creativity within the industry. Among the standout victors were Amazon MGM Studios’ “Saltburn,” which clinched two MUAHS Awards for Best Contemporary Makeup and Best Contemporary Hair Styling, and Netflix’s “Maestro,” which also took home two honors for Best Period and/or Character Makeup and Best Special Makeup Effects.
In the realm of feature films, Warner Bros.’ “Barbie” captured the spotlight with its win for Best Period and/or Character Hair Styling, adding another accolade to its impressive repertoire.
Television productions also shone brightly at the awards ceremony, with Netflix’s “The Crown,” HBO’s “The Last of Us,” Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show,” and Netflix’s “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” each securing their places in the winner’s circle. ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” dazzled with a triumphant trifecta, winning awards for Best Contemporary Make-Up, Best Contemporary Hair Styling, and Best Period and/or Character Hair Styling. Meanwhile, NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” earned recognition with two awards for Best Period and/or Character Makeup and Best Special Makeup Effects.
The evening also featured special honorees whose contributions to the industry have left an indelible mark. Annette Bening, acclaimed for her role in “Nyad,” was presented with the MUAHS Distinguished Artisan Award, while legendary makeup artist Michael Westmore, known for his iconic work on “Rocky,” “Star Trek,” “Mask,” and “Raging Bull,” received the Vanguard Award. Kevin Haney, whose illustrious career includes credits in “Driving Miss Daisy,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” and “Hocus Pocus 2,” was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, Emmy-nominated hairstylist Ora T. Green, celebrated for her contributions to “Star Trek: Nemesis,” “Blade,” and “Good Times,” was also bestowed with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
