We all know skincare is a very important but tough topic. We all want flawless skin, but it can be pretty difficult to find products that work for our skin or we simply don’t have the time, but hey, we totally get it. Its 2018 and we have so much to do that skincare doesn’t really cross the minds of, well, most of us! We constantly hear about Korean 10-step skincare routines and its very intimidating and we feel the need to pile on products BUT a short skincare routine is possible!
Step 1. Cleanse
Cleansing is going to be a huge part in your skincare routine. You want to make sure you get rid of all the excess oils, dirt and makeup that build up during the day. Doing so will prevent clogged pores resulting in less acne just by cleansing so you’re off to a great start. Choosing the perfect cleanser is where it gets a little difficult but here are some drugstore recommendations based on skin type.
CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser ($10.99)
Cetaphil Oil Controlling Foam Wash ($9.79)
Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser ($6.79)
Step 2: Exfoliate
Exfoliating is essential if you want your skin looking smooth and radiant. You don’t have to do this step daily which is great at keeping your routine fairly short. For people with dry skin, exfoliating once a week is great so you don’t over dry your skin but if you have oily skin you can do this as much as 3 times a week. This will help get rid of dead skin cells that make your skin look dull. Exfoliating the skin will cleanse deeper in your pores as opposed to regular cleansers.
St. Ives Facial Oil Scrub ($6.99)
Garnier SkinActive Clean+ Blackhead Eliminating Scrub ($7.99)
Acne Prone Skin
Neutragena Oil-Free Acne Scrub ($7.09)
Step 3: Tone
Now, this step is not necessary but it is great for the following reasons. Toning will shrink pores, restore your skin’s pH levels, help control oils, protect against external aggressors from the environment and it will hydrate. As I said before, its not necessary but adding hydrate. As I said before, its not necessary but adding a couple extra seconds to your skincare routine won’t hurt especially if you’re getting all those amazing benefits.
All Skin Types
Pixi Glow Tonic ($15)
Step 4: Moisturize
If you aren’t moisturizing your skin WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Seriously, moisturizing is super important DOING? Seriously, moisturizing is super important even if you have oily skin! Without proper moisture your skin can develop fine lines, dry patches, & if you wear makeup it’s the worst thing ever. Trust me, I’ve been there. With proper moisturization your skin will look plump, healthy, and luminous. Always make sure you moisturize after you cleanse or exfoliate your skin to avoid dehydrated skin.
Cetaphil Daily Hydrating Lotion for Dry to Extra Dry Skin ($12)
Neutragena Hydro Boost Water Gel ($14.99)
Acne Prone Skin
Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer ($4.99)
Step 5: Protect
Most people don’t know this, but you should be using SPF on your skin daily! Yes I said daily, that means even on days where its not sunny. The sun emits UVA and UVB rays. The ones that we see and make us warm are UVB rays. I like to call them UV-Burning rays. UVA rays are those that we can’t see and they’re still present even when sunlight is not. UVA rays are the present even when sunlight is not. UVA rays are the ones that make our skin age prematurely, they create fine lines, dark spots etc. I call these UV-Aging rays. Clever right? You can use moisturizers that already have SPF so you don’t add an extra step.
Aveeno Absolutely Ageless Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 ($18.79)
Oily & Acne Prone Skin
Cetaphil Oil Control Moisturizer SPF 30 ($14.39)
